There is no dedicated test page or one-click preview button that renders your post-purchase offer exactly as a customer sees it. Aftersell doesn’t have one, and Shopify’s post-purchase page can’t be opened on demand — it only appears inside a live checkout. To see the real offer, you place an order that satisfies both of these at once:
  1. Shopify’s post-purchase eligibility requirements — the platform-level conditions that decide whether the post-purchase page loads at all.
  2. Your funnel’s trigger conditions — the targeting rules that decide which funnel (if any) fires for that order.
If either set isn’t met, no offer shows. The rest of this guide covers what you can preview without an order, and how to place an order that qualifies.

What you can preview without placing an order

Inside the funnel and offer editor you can preview the offer’s content and flow — each step of the funnel, the products, and the discount that will be applied. This is useful for checking your setup, but it is not the live experience:
  • It does not render your store’s branding, fonts, or colours.
  • It does not run Shopify’s eligibility checks, so it can’t tell you whether a given order would actually show the offer.
For the real customer experience — branding, the rendered page, and eligibility all included — you need a live order.

Place an order that qualifies

The post-purchase page appears after payment is confirmed but before the Thank You page. For it to appear, the order has to clear Shopify’s requirements and match a funnel.

Before you order

  • Aftersell is the active post-purchase app. In Shopify, go to Settings → Checkout → Post-purchase page and confirm Aftersell is selected. Only one app can hold this slot.
  • The funnel is published and active in the Aftersell admin.
  • The order will match your triggers. When a funnel has multiple triggers, all of them must be met. To take targeting out of the equation while testing, temporarily set the funnel to Show this funnel for all customers, or make sure your test order matches the existing triggers. See How to configure post-purchase triggers and Understanding conditional logic for post-purchase triggers.

Shopify’s post-purchase requirements

These are Shopify-imposed and apply to every post-purchase app. The order must:
  • Be paid with a supported credit card that Shopify can vault (Shopify Payments, Shop Pay as a saved card in standard checkout, or another direct credit-card processor embedded in checkout). Wallets, accelerated buttons, BNPL, bank transfers, and full gift-card payments will not show the offer.
  • Be worth at least $0.50.
  • Be placed in the store’s default currency through the Online Store sales channel.
  • Have a shipping address, and no duties or landed costs.
This is the short list. For the full breakdown of every reason an offer can be skipped, see Why isn’t my post-purchase offer displaying? and Payment methods.
**Shopify’s test payment gateway (Bogus Gateway) and 0testordersdonottriggerpostpurchaseoffers.Shopifyneedsareal,vaultedcreditcardandanordervalueofatleast0 test orders do not trigger post-purchase offers.** Shopify needs a real, vaulted credit card and an order value of at least 0.50, so the usual 0testordertrickwontworkhere.Placealowvaluerealorderwithasupportedcard,thenrefundorcancelitafterward.(ThisisdifferentfromThankYouPagewidgets,whichyoucantestwitha0 test-order trick won't work here. Place a low-value real order with a supported card, then refund or cancel it afterward. (This is different from **Thank You Page** widgets, which you *can* test with a 0 order — see Testing your widgets.)

Steps

  1. Confirm the setup above (post-purchase app, funnel active, triggers).
  2. Add a product that matches your funnel’s triggers to the cart.
  3. Check out with a supported credit card, in your default currency, with a shipping address, for at least $0.50.
  4. After payment, the post-purchase offer appears before the Thank You page. Review it as a customer would.
  5. Refund or cancel the test order, and reset any triggers you changed for the test.

If the offer doesn’t appear

Open Apps → Aftersell → Order Browser, find the order, and check the Post-purchase section — it shows the exact ineligibility reason for that order. Start there rather than guessing. If most of your real orders use unsupported payment methods, set up Thank You Page upsells as well — they work with every payment method.
