Here’s a rundown of how these work:
To make the most of Aftersell’s potential, understanding the functional and strategic differences between these upsell options is imperative.Post-purchase upsells
- Display immediately after Checkout but before the Thank You Page.
-
Your customer’s payment information is already saved, allowing them to accept the offer with just one click.
- This makes it easy to convert, helping you generate extra revenue effortlessly.
- The upsell is combined with the original order, which means no additional shipping costs or fulfillment steps for your team.- This bundling ensures reduced shipping costs and facilitates easier order tracking for your team.
Can a customer see both?
Yes. If a funnel contains both a post-purchase offer and a Thank You Page widget, a single customer who uses a supported payment method (such as credit card or Shop Pay) will see both: the post-purchase offer first, then the Thank You Page offer after. This is intentional—every customer is shown at least one offer, and shoppers on unsupported payment methods (such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, or other wallets) only see the Thank You Page offer because Shopify skips the post-purchase step for those payments. See Payment methods and Why isn’t my 1-click offer displaying?. There is no built-in setting to suppress the Thank You Page widget based on payment method. If you want to avoid showing two offers to supported-payment customers, configure your funnel with only a post-purchase offer or only a Thank You Page widget rather than both.Thank You Page Upsells
- Appear on the Thank You Page, which displays after the post-purchase page. This page may also be referred to as the Order Status or Order Confirmation page.
- Payment information is not saved at this point, since checkout has already been completed. Customers must re-enter their payment details and complete checkout again to accept the offer.
- Merged with the original order - the upsell is combined with the initial purchase into a single order.
- Created as a separate order - the upsell generates a second order that is distinct from the original.
- Shopify restricts Thank You Page upsells to one product per upsell offer, and all products must be visible across the entire site.
- Because the checkout phase has ended, customization options for Thank You Pages remain limited, requiring thorough planning.
- Shopify restrictions mean products used in Thank You Page upsells must always be visible sitewide.
- Aftersell provides settings to automatically hide already-purchased products to enhance customer alignment and avoid redundancy.
