Reference Transactions allow applications to charge customers without requiring them to re-enter their payment details, making them essential for post-purchase upsells to display to PayPal customers. When you first install Aftersell, an approval request is automatically sent to PayPal on your behalf. Checking your approval status
  1. Go to your Shopify admin and click Settings in the bottom left
  2. Click Payments in the left column
  3. Find your PayPal payment method and click Manage in the top right
  4. Check the Automatic Payments line for your current status
What does my status mean? Approved: PayPal customers will be able to see your post-purchase upsells, assuming all other Shopify requirements are met. Pending: PayPal hasn’t reviewed your application yet. Check back daily until the status changes. Declined: PayPal has denied access to Reference Transactions for your account. This is outside of Aftersell and Shopify’s control. Contact PayPal support directly and ask them why your account was not approved for reference transactions, then follow their recommendations to appeal the decision. My status shows “Approved” but PayPal customers still aren’t seeing upsells Shopify can occasionally display an incorrect approval status. If eligible customers still aren’t seeing upsells despite an approved status, contact PayPal support directly and ask them to confirm whether your account is approved for reference transactions. If they confirm approval, take a screenshot of that confirmation and reach out to our support team for further assistance.
