Learn how Upcart displays savings to customers, the difference between savings types, and how to troubleshoot common display issues. Upcart provides multiple ways to display savings to customers, helping to highlight discounts and incentivise purchases. This article explains how each savings display works, where it appears, and how to resolve common issues.

Types of Savings Displayed

Save Label Below Product Prices The (Save $__) text shown beneath each product price is the strikethrough price minus what that line costs now. Because the second half is the line total after product-level discounts, a discount that reduced the line — an automatic discount or a code — does widen this figure; it is not purely a compare-at difference. Turn it on in Settings > Cart settings under “Show savings with product prices.” You can also configure whether the strikethrough is the compare-at price or the base price. See Show Discounts from Base Price Instead of Compare at Price. Savings Above the Checkout Button By default, the savings figure above the checkout button reflects only discounts applied at checkout — automatic discounts, manual codes, or bundle discounts — and excludes compare-at price differences. You can change that. Enabling Show compare-at price savings in footer total (in Settings > Cart settings > Advanced Settings) switches the row to a combined figure: every item’s compare-at difference plus the cart’s discounts. See Show compare-at price savings in footer total. How Discounts Appear in the Cart Product-level discounts display next to the individual product in the cart, whereas order-level discounts show only the total savings in the cart summary row.

Troubleshooting

Save label not showing on a specific product The product must have a compare-at price set that is higher than the current price, and “Show savings with product prices” must be enabled in Settings > Cart settings. If you are using base price discounts instead of compare-at pricing, check your Advanced Settings configuration. See Show Savings Below Product Prices for more detail. Save label not showing on any products No compare-at price is set on the product in Shopify. Set a compare-at price in your Shopify product settings to enable the label. Savings line showing a smaller amount than expected By default the savings line at the bottom of the cart reflects only checkout discounts — automatic or manual codes — and leaves out compare-at price differences, so it can read lower than the per-product Save labels above it. The usual fix is to make the two agree: enable Show compare-at price savings in footer total in Settings > Cart settings > Advanced Settings, and the footer figure will include compare-at savings as well. If you’d rather remove the row instead, see Hide the Discount Row or Specific Savings Elements.

Advanced Customization

A combined savings total — compare-at savings and checkout discounts in one figure — is a standard setting, not a custom build: enable Show compare-at price savings in footer total. Reach for the Upcart Public API only for a calculation the built-in options genuinely don’t cover.
